Driving Positive Change: How We’re Reducing Our Carbon Footprint at razorblue

At razorblue, we talk a lot about responsibility — to our clients, our people, and the planet. Sustainability has become a key focus in recent years, and I’m proud to be part of the journey as we build an organisation that genuinely cares about its environmental impact.

Measuring with Meaning

We began formally measuring our carbon footprint in 2024 with the help of Decerna, an exceptional carbon consultancy. From the start, we made it clear that this wasn’t going to be a tick-box exercise. We wanted to take meaningful action — and that meant committing to real accountability.

As part of that, we chose to pursue ISO 14001 certification and were thrilled to pass the audit with no non-conformities or required improvements. That felt like a huge milestone for us and a reflection of how seriously we’re approaching this work.

Our data collection process is pretty detailed. We track everything from employee mileage to refrigerant leaks from our air conditioning units. This gave us a solid baseline for 2024 — and allowed us to set realistic, achievable targets. When we recalculated our footprint in 2025, we were absolutely delighted to discover that we’d already exceeded our Year 1 goal, cutting emissions by 77 tonnes compared to the previous year.

Where We’re Making an Impact

As a business, razorblue is relatively low impact in terms of emissions. But the largest contributor by far is employee commuting. That’s something we’ve actively started addressing by encouraging car-sharing and looking at how we can make sustainable travel easier and more appealing across the board.

One of the biggest steps we’ve taken is launching an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme in partnership with Octopus Energy. It’s helping more of our team switch to electric without the financial barrier — making it good for the planet, and great for their wallets too.

Proud of Our Progress — But Still More to Do

I’m really proud of how far we’ve come. Beating our 2025 emissions target is no small thing, especially in the first year. But we’re far from finished. Commuting and business travel are still our biggest areas of impact, and we’re continuing to focus our efforts there.

We’re reviewing our vehicle fleet, encouraging further uptake of EVs, and have already introduced one electric pool car — with plans to expand that as our current leases expire. We’re also continuing to work closely with Decerna to ensure our actions are informed, effective, and future-focused.

Sustainability Is in Our DNA

Sustainability isn’t something we do in isolation. At razorblue, we know that our clients care about these issues — and we want to support their values, not just our own. Our goals are aligned with theirs, and by making improvements to how we operate, we’re also helping them work with partners who share their priorities.

That matters. Taking responsibility for our carbon footprint isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s also about showing our clients and our people that we’re serious about positive change.

Why This Matters to Me

For me, this is deeply personal. As a mum, an outdoor lover, and someone who cares about animals and the world we live in, I feel strongly that we all have a part to play. This isn’t just a work project — it’s something I believe in.

And I’m lucky to work for a company that shares that mindset. razorblue embraces challenge, encourages innovation, and supports people who want to make a difference. That’s why I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved so far — and excited about what comes next.
